IPL was started in 2008 and within a few years, it registered itself as one of the most popular T20 cricket leagues in the world. The standard of IPL and competitiveness encouraged many world players to participate in this league which helped Indian cricket to generate more revenue. As a result of the growing popularity of the league, BCCI expanded it from eight to ten teams. CSK, MI, SRH, KKR, and DC are the only teams on the IPL winners list.
Most Title Wins in IPL History
Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in IPL history having won 05 IPL trophies. Chennai Super Kings is second on the IPL winners list with 4 IPL titles. Despite appearing in all 14 earlier series, only the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have not won the league.

First IPL Winner 2008 | Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals was the first team to win an IPL title after winning a thrilling final contest against Chennai Super Kings. This was the last ball contest and Sohail Tanvir won it for Rajasthan by scoring a 01 run to Balaji.
Yousuf Pathan was announced as man of the match for his outstanding performance with bat and bowl. He scored 56 runs on 39 balls and also took crucial 03 wickets with the bowl. His key performance helped Rajasthan Royals to win the Inaugural title of IPL 2008.
IPL Winner 2009 | Deccan Chargers
IPL 2009 was won by Deccan Chargers, a Hyderabad-based franchise now called Sunrisers Hyderabad, in a final contest versus Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although Royal Challengers Bangalore tried their best but they could not do well due to the stunning batting performance of Herschelle Gibbs and Rohit Sharma. Both batters hit brilliantly against RCB bowlers and scored 53 and 24 runs respectively. The only positive from RCB bowling was Anil Kumble who took 4 wickets for 16 runs which was one of the best bowling performances of IPL 2009.
IPL Winner 2010 | Chennai Super Kings
IPL 2010 was won by Chennai Super Kings after winning a final match against runner-up Mumbai Indians. This was CSK’s second attempt in the history of IPL, the first was in 2008 when they lost to Rajasthan Royals.
This time they turned things in their favor by utilizing Suresh Rain’s brilliant performance. He scored 56 runs on 31 balls and also took one wicket with the bowl. Sachin Tendulkar was announced as a Player of the series of IPL 2010.
IPL Winner 2011 | Chennai Super Kings
IPL 2011 was won by Chennai Super Kings which was the second consecutive title win for CSK after 2010. In the 2011 season, Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by massive 58 runs. CSK batted first and posted a big total of 205 due to the amazing performance of Murali Vijay who scored 95 runs on 52 balls. In reply, RCB fought well but could not resist Ravi Ashwin’s magical deliveries which helped him 03 wickets. Murali Vijay was announced as man of the match and Chirs Gayle was given the Player of the series award of IPL 2011.
IPL Winner 2012 | Kolkata Knight Riders
IPL 2012 was won by Kolkata Knight Riders. This was 03 consecutive entries of CSK into the final of IPL but they could not win this time due to the superb bowling of Sunil Narine. CSK posted a big total of 192 but due to the excellent performance of Jacques Kallis and Manvinder Bisla, KKR Chased this target easily in the last over of the game. Sunil Narine was announced as man of the series for 24 wickets in the IPL 2012 season. Manvinder Bisla was announced as man of the match for his amazing 89 runs in 48 balls.
IPL Winner 2013 | Mumbai Indians
IPL 2013 was won by Mumbai Indians. This was the first-ever title won by Mumbai Indians. Kieron Pollard scored one of his fastest innings in IPL. He scored 60 runs on 32 balls 07 fours and 03 sixes.
In reply, MS Dhoni fought well at the depth but Mumbai’s calculated bowling resisted his struggle. MS Dhoni scored 63 runs in innings on 45 balls. In the end, Kieron Pollard was announced as man of the match and Shane Watson was announced as the player of the series of IPL 2013 season.
IPL Winner 2014 | Kolkata Knight Riders
IPL 2014 was won by Kolkata Knight Riders. This was the second KKR title under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. Kings XI Punjab made it into the final for the first time and ended up second on the table. Manan Vohra and W Saha was the top scorer from KKR who helped Punjab Kings to score a big total of 200.
In reply, KKR made history by chasing the highest runs in the IPL final. It was Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, and Shakib ul Hasan’s cameo, which helped KKR to achieve that total in the last over. Manish Pandey was announced as the player of the match and Glenn Maxwell was announced as the player of the season.
IPL Winner 2015 | Mumbai Indians
IPL 2015 was won by Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings this was the third time that both teams faced each other in the IPL final. Before that, they played the IPL final in the 2010 and 2013 seasons. In the 2015 IPL final, big sixes by Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmon helped Mumbai to post a big total of 202.
In reply, CSK could not bat well due to Laista Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan’s magical bowling effort that restricted CSK to 161. After the end of the match, Rohit Sharma was announced as the player of the match and Andre Russell was announced as the player of the series of IPL 2015.
IPL Winner 2016 | Sunrisers Hyderabad
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad had an outstanding season of IPL 2016. Both teams ended up finalists and SRH won their first-ever IPL title. Virat Kohli and David Warner were in a superb form in that season and both scored tons of runs with the bat.
Virat Kohli was announced as the player of the series, and purple cap winner after scoring the most runs in that season. This final was purely a thrilling contest, between SRH and RCB, in which SRH set the target of 208 runs, and RCB in reply scored 200 runs.
IPL Winner 2017 | Mumbai Indians
Although CSK was banned in the 2017 IPL, but MS Dhoni was leading another team Rising Pune Super Giants into the final against Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians won this IPL final and registered their 3rd title victory on the IPL winners list. In the final match, MI posted a total of 129 runs on the board.
In reply, Steven Smith’s quick 51 runs helped RPS to reach 127 runs in the last over. RPS fought well but they were unlucky in front of MI bowling. At the end of the match, Krunal Pandya was announced as the player of the match for scoring 47 runs on 38 balls.
IPL Winner 2018 | Chennai Super Kings
IPL 2018 was won by Chennai Super Kings. This was the third title win for CSK which they achieved by winning a final against Sunrisers. Sunrisers made it into the final second time before doing the same in the 2016 season of IPL. SRH posted a well-balanced total of 178 on the board, but an aggressive batting of CSK all-rounder Shane Watson shattered their dreams of winning a second IPL title. Shane Watson scored 117 runs on 57 balls and help CSK to chase that target quite easily. Due to this performance, he was announced as the player of the match. Sunil Narine was given the player of the series award of IPL 2018.
IPL Winner 2019 | Mumbai Indians
IPL 2019 was won by Mumbai Indians. This was the fourth IPL title for Mumbai Indians. In the final match, Mumbai faced his rival team Chennai and defeated them by only 01 runs. Mumbai Indians posted a target of 150 due to Kerion Pollard’s amazing 41 runs on 25 balls. In reply, CSK was able to score 148 runs in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was announced as the player of the match for his amazing last over which resisted CSK to achieve the target.
IPL Winner 2020 | Mumbai Indians
The winner of IPL 2020 was Mumbai Indians which they achieved after defeating Delhi Capitals in the final of IPL 2020. This was the 5th IPL title for Mumbai Indians which is still a record in IPL history. Shreyas Iyer and Rishab Pant, two youngsters from Delhi Capitals, helped DC to reach a total of 156. Both scored 65 and 56 runs respectively.
In reply, Mumbai chased that target in the 18th over, due to excellent batting by skipper Rohit Sharma who scored 68 runs. Trent Bould from MI was announced as the player of the match for his brilliant bowling performance of 30/3.
IPL Winner 2021 | Chennai Super Kings
IPL 2021 was won by Chennai Super Kings. This was the fourth IPL title for CSK. In the final, they defeated runner-up team Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. CSK posted a big total of 192 runs due to the superb batting of Faf Duplessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. In reply, KKR was able to score 165 runs. Faf Du Plessis was announced as the player of the match.
